Oilers to move AHL affiliate

The Oilers will hold a press conference in Oklahoma City Tuesday to announce they’re moving their American Hockey League affiliate from Springfield, Mass., starting next season.

Their signed affiliation runs out with the Falcons after the 2009-10 season. It has been an on-ice disaster in Springfield this season.

The Oilers own the dormant Edmonton Road Runners franchise and would move that to Oklahoma City. The arena seats about 18,000. The city is about 1,000 kilometres closer to Edmonton than Springfield.
